Renovation Featuring Elegant Pavers Overlooking the Berkshires

Williamstown, Massachusetts
Completed: 2016

The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute – which is known for its holdings in French Impressionism, 19th-century academic paintings and Renaissance masterpieces – covers 140 acres of land and is a landscape masterpiece of its own. A portion of the project that makes up that masterpiece is Wausau Tile's pavers, which overlook a water feature at the institute.

The renovation – which included design input from Reed Hilderbrand, Tado Ando Architect & Associates, Selldorf Architects, Gensler and wHY – started in 2001 and was completed this year. The pavers, located on a broad terrace overlooking three stepped reflective pools, are one of the first things visitors see and provide the project with stunning symmetry.

Wausau Tile's high-quality concrete pavers are made stronger, delivered and installed more efficiently, and crafted with unprecedented creative control. In the beautiful Berkshires in Western Massachusetts on the Stone Hill meadow, Wausau Tile's pavers provide the perfect foundation to achieve rapport between the building itself and the body of water it overlooks.
