Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center

A Staircase to Behold

Orlando, Florida
Completed: Spring 2015

The Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center’s rotunda staircase and crab claw stairs are truly one of a kind and are a showcase piece in Orlando, Florida. The stunning staircase – made with precast terrazzo and a wood veneer finish – greets guests at the building’s entrance, rising gracefully from the ground level to the top floor.

No other manufacturer has the capacity for such an ambitious undertaking. To ensure success, Wausau Tile sent a project manager to meet with the architects and general contractor. They discussed the fine details of making sure each piece would fit properly, a significant challenge due to the complexity of the staircase. Once the drawings were completed, and before production began, Wausau Tile sent foam mock-ups to ensure the curves in the crab claw stairs lined up as each stair was installed. The result of their meticulous work is truly something to behold!
