Located in the heart of Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia, the Atlanta Financial Center project transforms an underutilized one-acre outdoor space into a dynamic park where office workers can meet, socialize and relax on their breaks. The centerpiece of the park is an innovative sculptural seat wall formed from precast concrete that surrounds an elliptical lawn area defined by corten steel edging.
This unique seat wall begins as a curb before it morphs into a retaining wall, then a small stair, twistÂing into a taller arc of seating and finishes back to a curb. A large crushed slate plaza surrounds the lawn and seat wall to create a seating area that also infiltrates storm water. Multiple seating types throughout the park meet the diverse needs of users. A looped path system invites people to explore a lushly planted garden with multi-seasonal interest.
