Steeplechase Plaza

Pavers Breathe New Life Into Historic Coney Island

New York, New York
Completed: August 2013

Steeplechase Plaza is built over the neglected grounds of the old Steeplechase Park – one of Coney Island’s most popular attractions in the first half of the 20th century. The plaza revitalizes the historic leisure and entertainment destination, which overlooks the water in Brooklyn and is a staple of not only the community but also the city of New York.

A mixture of both light and dark Wausau Tile UltraFace hexagonal pavers are masterfully accented by sporadically placed Blasted Glass pavers. The combination creates a beautiful, fun look that welcomes foot traffic and encourages use of the plaza. The project is especially successful as it retains the shine of Blasted Glass pavers, which were used as accent pieces, but costs were kept low by the predominant use of UltraFace Pavers.
