Green Initiative
Wausau Tile A Green Company!
We realize the need to become environmentally friendly in both our facility operations and
in the products we manufacture. The following initiatives allow us to meet our high
standards of quality, while continuing to be a leader in conserving, recycling and reusing
precious materials and resources.
Products/Manufacturing
Recycled Steel
We use recycled metals to produce our line of metal site furnishings that include planters, benches, tables, waste containers and snuffers. Wherever steel rebar reinforcement is used throughout our concrete manufacturing, it is made from recycled steel.
Recycled Plastic
We use recycled plastic material to manufacture waste container liners.
Recycled Rubber
Our Terra-Tabs and Terra-Shims, used with our roof deck pedestal systems, are made from 20% post-consumer rubber.
Fly Ash
We reduce the amount of cement necessary in our concrete pavers and terrazzo tile by substituting a portion of the cement with fly ash.
Cool Finishes
A specially formulated applied finish on our roof deck pavers and concrete benches allows for a SRI (solar reflectance index) of over 79.
Planter Reservoir System
Our exclusive reservoir wick system can be used with our concrete planters to maintain root moisture and lessen water consumption.
Recycled Glass
A formula has been developed, that allows the mixture of recycled glass in all of our concrete and epoxy based products.
Facility/Operations
Water Filtration System
Filter presses have been installed in the manufacturing of our concrete products to reduce particles in wastewater.
Recycled Water
Recycled water is used in all phases of our manufacturing process.
Roto Mold Plastics Oven
By upgrading our plastic mold oven with the latest technology, we have significantly increased our efficiency in natural gas consumption.
Energy Efficient Lighting Change Over
The manufacturing facility has had the lighting changed over to a high efficiency, energy saving lighting system.
